The Return of GLOW ?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Today we take a step away from WWE and TNA.....

Big Vision Entertainment (the creators of Wrestling Society X) look to be restarting GLOW.
They had an open casting call on Tuesday January 27th. 2009, looking for new wrestlers.
Well not just new wrestlers, as their press release said, " You do not need experience in professional wrestling to take part. We are looking for a very wide range of types and styles of people. "

So I'm guessing what they are doing is getting good looking women, testing them for camera presence and then going on to train them as wrestlers?
As you probably already know, GLOW was formed in 1985 by David B. McLane along with Jackie Stallone (yes Sylvester Stallone's mother).
It was kinda like Hee Haw with wrestling.
It had colorful characters, beautiful women, and over-the-top (read dumb) comedy sketches.

As you may also know, that's where Lisa Moretti (WWE's Ivory) got her start as Tina Ferrari, and Mando Guerrero (the son of legendary Gory Guerrero and the brother of Chavo, Hector Guerrero and Eddie Guerrero) was the original GLOW trainer.

I'm interested to see how this will pan out.
Even though I watched GLOW in it's heyday, I can't sit through an entire episode now.
Are they going to reboot the series?
Make it serious this time?
Female wrestling does fairly well in Lucha Libre and Joshi Puroresu is a constant draw in Japan.
How could GLOW expect to out do SHIMMER in the US?

WWE Divas Last Night On WWE Raw

Last night on WWE Raw, Melina and Kelly Kelly took on Beth Phoenix and Jillian Hall.
The match didn't last long because Rosa Mendez ran in.
Where was she at the Royal Rumble?
Anyway, her interference allowed Beth Phoenix to get the win.

The big question right now is will Trish Stratus have a match at Wrestlemania 25?
The two main ideas for possible opponents seem to be Beth Phoenix or Michelle McCool.
But why? Both of them are ex-champions.
Either way, a Trish Stratus appearance is sure to sell tickets, even if it makes no sense.

WWE's Royal Rumble and TNA's Against All Odds

Of course tonight is the WWE's Royal Rumble PPV in Detroit.
The Women's Wrestling Champion Beth Phoenix will be facing Melina.
And if Rosa Mendes doesn't show up or interfere, I'll put away my crystal ball.

At TNA's "Against All Odds" PPV on February 8th Awesome Kong will be wrestling ODB in a Knockout's Title Match.
I had heard that Kong has a couple of physical problems, so I wonder how this is gonna work out.
I can't really see ODB getting the title belt.

More Victoria News, WWE Diva to TNA Knockout?

And more to add to the Victoria story......

It seems now that TNA is interested in signing the former WWE Diva.
Could this happen?
If the WWE let her go, it could happen in 90 days. If they let her retire but kept her on her contract, she'd be tied up till the contract expires.
And would she even go to TNA?
A TNA schedule would be much less grueling than a WWE schedule. Less touring, less house shows.
And TNA would most likely give Victoria the push that the WWE didnt seem to want to.
Victoria as the TNA Knockouts Women's Champion?

With Awesome Kong being out longer than was anticipated, the womens ranks need some juice.
Christy Hemme has already worked with Victoria.
Raisha Saeed (Cheerleader Melissa) had a tryout match on the May 26, 2006 edition of WWE Heat against Victoria.
Velvet Sky also worked a match on WWE Heat with Victoria.
Sharmell and Jacqueline of course knows her from their WWE days.
So it's not like she wouldn't have any friends in the locker room.

But really, as much as I can see it happening, I really don't think it will.

WWE Diva Victoria to Retire From Wrestling

Okay, here is some news I'm not happy to be reporting.
The rumors have been running around for awhile, but it seems now that WWE Diva Victoria really is retiring from wrestling .
I know it's probably for her best, but I have to admit I'm gonna miss her.
I've loved her since she first turned up on Raw and blindsided Trish Stratus.
I remember wincing the first time I saw the Widow's Peak applied.
But she's been in the WWE longer than any other Diva (I think) and I can understand her wanting to move on.
Victoria, you'll be missed.

More WWE Diva and TNA Knockout Updates

Last nights women's wrestling match on WWE Raw really wasn't a match.
Beth Phoenix and Jillian Hall were supposed to wrestle Kelly Kelly and Melina.
Beth and Jillian were already in the ring waiting and Kelly came out followed by Melina.
Then suddenly Rosa Mendez, who was posing as one of the photographers, jumped Melina and knocked her down.
See I told you that ban wouldn't work...LOL
Security grabs Rosa and hauls her off and Kelly goes to check on Melina at which time the heels decide it's a good time to attack.
So they do and pretty much decimate Kelly and Melina.
Thus the match is ruled No Contest.

Now....who can see a three woman tag team match in the distance?

Over at TNA, Roxxi, Taylor Wilde and ODB will be facing The Kongtourage on TNA iMPACT!

Also over at TNA, Christy Hemme and Awesome Kong may be out a bit as Christy is having trouble with discs in her neck, and Kong has a back injury.
Christy may be looking at surgery.

Female Wrestling on WWE Raw Last Night

Well we had one and a half women's wrestling matches last night on Raw.
First, Goldust and Melina took on Beth Phoenix and Santino Marella.
Goldust and Melina...really not a bad idea. I kinda like that.
Anyway, Goldust and Melina won which of course cued the attack by Rosa.
Her and Melina went at it a bit till security once again broke it up.

Then Kelly Kelly took on Jillian Hall.
Although Jillian pretty much ran the whole match Kelly managed to get the win.
Afterwards Jillian attacked Kelly which cued......Kane.

So the mixed match was a Diva's promo, and the women's match was a Kane promo.
I'm still waiting for the day that we see an actual women's tag team match and a women's single match both on the same night.
I can't really rip the mixed tag team matches that hard since in Lucha Libre, one of the promotions even has a Mixed Tag Team belt.
But I would like to see the women's matches focused on the women's storylines.

BTW, Stephanie McMahon "officially" banned Rosa Mendes from WWE events last night.
We'll see how long that lasts.
